Sen. Specter Leads Delegation of Elected Officials Awarding AHP Grants in western PA

On April 7, U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA) headed an entourage of elected officials helping to present $3.3 million in FHLBank Affordable Housing Program grants to 11 projects in western PA. The event was held at the Centre Avenue YMCA in the Hill District of Pittsburgh. The “Y” was one of the project recipients announced at the event. The $3.3 million will help fund a total of 604 units of housing that will serve the homeless, the elderly, other very low- and low-income individuals and families and the mentally and physically disabled. Joining Sen. Specter at the ceremony were Congressmen Jason Altmire (PA-4) and Mike Doyle (PA-14), Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato and Eric Mann, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. The 85-year-old Centre Avenue YMCA is adding 20 rooms for low-income area residents and renovating 77 existing units of transitional housing.
