Gerlach Conducts Forum, Tours in Pottstown and Norristown

NORRISTOWN, PA, October 4, 2005 — Approximately 40 community representatives from the Sixth Congressional District joined U.S. Rep. James Gerlach (PA-6) and officials of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) at a housing forum at The Rittenhouse in Norristown.

At the forum, Rep. Gerlach provided a status report on affordable housing and economic and community development, with special emphasis given to developments across Montgomery County. The group also discussed private and public aid available to homebuyers and businesses with a panel discussion featuring the congressman, Guy Ciarrocchi, Philadelphia regional director for the Housing and Urban Development Region III Office, and Dave Buches, FHLBank Community Investment consultant.

Rep. Gerlach also conducted two tours highlighting the successful development of affordable housing being rented by low-income elderly in Montgomery County. The congressman visited Jefferson Apartments, a 46-unit rental complex in Pottstown completed in 2004 with a $288,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant. The congressman also visited residents at The Rittenhouse, a 48-unit rental complex on the site of the former David Rittenhouse Junior High School. Completed in 1997, the facility received $240,000 in AHP funding after the Colonial Revival-style building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Funding through AHP and other Community Investment programs can be delivered through 15 FHLBank member institutions headquartered in Congressman Gerlach's district.
