Santorum Discusses GSE Legislation at FHLBank Forum

PALMYRA, PA, July 6, 2005 — U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) was the special guest at a housing and community development forum hosted by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh in Palmyra, PA. Engaging the 65 participants for 45 minutes, he discussed and heard comment on housing legislation, including the pending regulatory reform of the nation's housing government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs).

As a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Sen. Santorum will be a significant architect of the final GSE legislation.

“The senator is a champion of housing,” said Bryan Hoffman, executive director of the Lebanon County Housing Authority. “He and his staff have been very helpful on programs including community development block grants and housing tax credits.”

The event was held at the Palmview low-income senior home, a project funded from a number of sources including tax credits from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) and a grant from the FHLBank's Affordable Housing Program made through Lebanon Valley Farmers Bank.

Attendees included Lebanon Valley Farmers Bank President Andrew Marhevsky; Brian Hudson, PHFA executive director; John Bendel, director of Community Investment for the FHLBank; Liz Hersh, Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania; Len Ferber, president-elect of the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS®; Frank Pinto, president of the Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers; and Dave Martin, executive vice president of the Pennsylvania Builders Association.
