Blueprint Communities Success Stories

“This is truly a blessing from God.”

With those words, first-time homeowner Lisa Wilson summarized her heartfelt emotions as she prepared to move into her home at 1603 Jenny Lind Street in McKeesport, PA - the first home opened in a neighborhood of new, affordable homes funded in part by FHLBank Pittsburgh in one of the Bank’s Blueprint Communities.

This month, Wilson, along with daughter Miracle, 3, and sons Donovan and Lukas, both 5, are leaving the townhome they have shared and moving into their three-bedroom, two-story home, funded in part with a $100,000 FHLBank Affordable Housing Program grant. The homes are being built on the site of a former reservoir, helping to bring back a faded section of blue collar McKeesport, named as one of Pennsylvania’s 22 Blueprint Communities in 2005. The Bank’s Blueprint Communities banner was displayed prominently on Lisa’s house at a grand opening celebration held in early May.

“Providing my family with stability and a place they can always call home started as a dream and became my goal,” said Lisa, who participated in the PNC Homebuyers Club that pre-qualified her and helped build a waiting list of buyers for the new homes. “We have a great family room in our new house, which is a very big thing for me, and the four of us will also be just three blocks away from my mom and dad,” she added. In fact, Lisa will be living on the very street on which she was born 45 years ago - a homecoming of sorts that she can happily share with her children.

“PNC and the McKeesport Housing Corporation were wonderful to work with,” commented Lisa. “I’m still numb. This is really exciting to me - the idea of striving for more.”
