REP. CAPITO, FEDERAL HOME LOAN BANK TO AWARD HOUSING
GRANTS; PROJECTS IN CHARLESTON, ST. ALBANS WILL ASSIST
THE CHRONICALLY HOMELESS
CHARLESTON, WV, October 12, 2004 U.S.
Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (WV-2) and the Federal Home
Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) will hold a news conference
Monday, October 18, at 2 p.m. to announce funding for
two new housing projects for homeless individuals in
Kanawha and Putnam counties.
The news conference will be held at the Twin Cities
Center, 100 MacCorkle Avenue, St. Albans, site of an
expanding housing program for the region's chronically
homeless. The FHLBank's Affordable Housing Program (AHP)
grants to be awarded will help complete construction
of the Twin Cities Center as well as new and rehabilitated
housing at the Assaley Place Apartments in Charleston's
East End. At least 370 homeless clients a year will
be served by the two projects.
In addition, a grant to help fund new single-family
homes to be built by Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity
will also be awarded. Habitat volunteers will build
the new homes in Pendleton County, helping to make homeownership
a reality for very-low- to moderate-income families.
AHP grants are awarded each year in support of affordable
housing and overall community development across West
Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
Rep. Capito and William G. Batz, executive vice president
and chief operating officer of the FHLBank, will make
remarks prior to the presentation of checks to Roark-Sullivan
Lifeway Center of Charleston (Twin Cities Center); Housing
Development Corporation of Huntington (Assaley Place
Apartments); and Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity.
Representatives of these three sponsoring organizations,
other community groups, Huntington Federal Savings Bank,
Pendleton County Bank, United Bank, Rep. Capito's office
and the FHLBank will participate in the presentations.
Project details will be available on site the day of
the event, and participants will be available for interviews.
