FIVE-YEAR FINANCIAL FITNESS PLAN FOR LOW- TO MODERATE-INCOME
TEENS: COUNTY EXECUTIVE ONORATO, AREA BANKS AND COUNSELING
GROUP ON BOARD; KICKOFF EVENT SCHEDULED AT COUNTY
COURTHOUSE FOR MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15
PITTSBURGH, PA, November 10, 2004 Allegheny
County Chief Executive Dan Onorato, Rep. Mike Doyle
(PA-14), Jay Roy, president and chief executive officer
of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank),
eight other financial institutions and Neighborhood
Housing Services, Inc., will launch a free, five-year
financial literacy initiative Monday, November 15 at
10 a.m., aimed at helping low-income youth develop lifelong
money management skills.
To be held in the Gold Room on the fourth floor of
the Allegheny County Courthouse, the event will celebrate
a new neighborhood-based counseling program with a goal
of graduating one thousand low-income young adults 16-19
years of age by the end of 2009. Speakers will include
County Executive Onorato, Rep. Doyle, FHLBank President
Roy and LouAnn Ross, executive director of Neighborhood
Housing Services. Participating banks are ESB Bank,
Iron & Glass Bank, Laurel Savings Bank, National
City Bank, Northwest Savings Bank, PNC Bank, Sewickley
Savings Bank and Sky Bank. Other elected officials and
community leaders will also attend. Three hundred thirty
thousand dollars in funding is committed to the five-year
initiative, which is also designed to reach hundreds
of supporting adults through related financial literacy
and credit counseling programs.
