FOR
SIX AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECTS ACROSS DELAWARE
LINCOLN, DE, August 25, 2005 U.S.
Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) and U.S. Rep. Mike Castle
(R-DE) will announce $1.36 million in funding for six
affordable housing projects across Delaware on Wednesday,
August 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Landing
Self-Help project in Lincoln.
Sen. Carper and Rep. Castle will join officials of
the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) to
announce the release of funds for projects in Dover,
Ellendale, Lincoln, Seaford and Wilmington representing
a total of 61 units of new and renovated housing for
very-low-, low- and moderate-income, first-time homebuyers.
Homebuyer assistance programs featured at some of the
projects include down payment and settlement assistance,
pre-construction and post-occupancy counseling and "sweat
equity." All six projects are being funded in part
through the 2005 Funding Round of the FHLBank's Affordable
Housing Program (AHP) via four of the FHLBank's Delaware
member institutions.
Eligible homebuyers at Cedar Creek Landing, the site
of the funding awards, must commit at least 20 hours
a week of onsite labor to fully qualify for homeownership.
Event attendees include families engaged in sweat equity,
Cornerstone West Community Development Corporation,
the Dover Housing Authority, Milford Housing Development
Corporation, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity, the
Latin American Community Center Development Corporation
and United Pentacostal Church. FHLBank members attending
the event are Citicorp Trust Bank, County Bank, Delaware
National Bank and Wilmington Savings Fund Society.
