LANCASTER'S WATER STREET RESCUE MISSION TO ANNOUNCE
MAJOR FACELIFT: HALF-MILLION-DOLLAR GRANT IS PART OF
$1.08 MILLION FOR THREE AREA PROJECTS TO BE ANNOUNCED
BY SANTORUM, PITTS AND FEDERAL HOME LOAN BANK
LANCASTER, PA, September 12, 2005 U.S.
Sen. Rick Santorum
(R-PA), U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts (R-16) and Bill Batz,
executive vice president and chief operating officer
of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank),
will announce $1.08 million in Affordable Housing Program
(AHP) grants for three southcentral Pennsylvania projects
this week, including funds for a major overhaul of the
100-year-old Water Street Rescue Mission in Lancaster.
The senator, congressman and Batz will join project
sponsors, affordable housing advocates and residents
of Water Street Rescue Mission for a check presentation
ceremony at the mission's chapel Friday, September 16,
at 3:45 p.m. The mission is located at 210 South Prince
Street in downtown Lancaster. Jere Shertzer, the mission's
president, will speak at the event and provide details
of the comprehensive renovation and expansion program
that Water Street will undertake on behalf of its clients.
Other projects to receive AHP grant money at the event
include a new retirement community in Hanover, PA, serving
the ill, frail and low-income elderly, and a new apartment
complex in Mechanicsburg, PA, for very-low- and low-income
individuals and families. Lutheran Social Services of
South Central Pennsylvania and the Cumberland County
Housing and Redevelopment Authority are sponsoring those
projects, respectively.
Media are invited to attend Friday's event.
