CARPER, CASTLE TO UNVEIL $6 MILLION PROGRAM FOR
FIRST-TIME HOMEBUYERS: DOWN PAYMENT, CLOSING COSTS THE
FOCUS OF STATEWIDE INITIATIVE
WILMINGTON, DE, February 23, 2006 U.S.
Sen. Thomas R. Carper and U.S. Rep. Michael N. Castle
will announce a more than $6 million program to assist
lower-income first-time homebuyers at an event in Wilmington
next Monday.
Carper and Castle will appear at 11 a.m. Monday,
February 27, at West End Neighborhood House, 710 North
Lincoln Street in Downtown Wilmington to announce
the program. Representatives of Delaware banks and nonprofits,
the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank),
builders, REALTORS© and other community-based groups
will also participate. Speakers will outline the nature
and benefits of the new grant program and explain how
First State homebuyers can apply. At least 1,000 first-time
homebuyers are expected to be assisted by this new initiative.
Directions:
From the south: Driving north on I-95, the Blue
Rocks Baseball Stadium will be on your right as you
enter the city of Wilmington. Pass the Maryland Avenue
Exit. Take the Delaware Avenue Exit (the first exit
after Maryland Ave.) and stay in the left-hand lane.
Turn left onto 10th Street. Cross I-95. Make a quick
left onto Jackson Street and turn right onto 8th Street.
Continue on 8th Street to Scott Street. Once you cross
over Scott Street, there are houses on your left, then
the entrance to a parking lot as you approach Lincoln
Street. West End Neighborhood House is on your left
at the corner of 8th and Lincoln streets. Parking is
on the left before the intersection and is also available

From the north: Driving south on I-95, take
the Delaware Avenue Exit (the exit after the Rte. 202
exits). As you take the Delaware Avenue Exit, you will
approach a stoplight at the top of the exit. Stay in
the middle lane. Make a right onto 8th Street. Follow
8th Street through several stop signs to Lincoln Street.
West End Neighborhood House is at the corner of 8th
and Lincoln streets. Once you approach Lincoln Street,
look for a parking spot. There is parking behind the
building. Street parking is also available. For assistance,
