MAYOR REED, FIVE BANKS TO UNVEIL $1.4 MILLION IN
GRANTS FOR FIVE AREA AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECTS
Low-income renters, buyers to include victims of
abuse, the disabled, chemically impaired
HARRISBURG, PA, August 21, 2006 Harrisburg
Mayor Stephen R. Reed will be the keynote speaker
this Wednesday when five area banks announce more than
$1.4 million in grants for the construction or rehabilitation
of 170 units of affordable housing serving a wide variety
of low-income occupants ranging from victims of domestic
violence to the physically disabled to individuals recovering
from alcohol and drug addiction.
The announcement will take place Wednesday, August
23, at 1 p.m. in the Atrium of the City Government Building
at 10 N. Second Street in Harrisburg. Leaders of
area nonprofits, banks and FHLBank Pittsburgh, part
of the Federal Home Loan Bank System, will attend the
event, which is expected to conclude by 2 p.m.
Directions:
From Route 15 (North from Gettysburg)
Coming from Gettysburg and points south on Route 15,
follow north to I-83 North. Take I-83 North over the
South Bridge across the Susquehanna River. Take the
very first exit (Exit 43) onto Second Street and into
Downtown Harrisburg.
From Routes 22 and 322 (South from State College)
Coming south from State College and points north on
Routes 22 and 322, follow south to Routes 11 and 15
South. Follow south to I-81 North. Take I-81 North across
the Susquehanna River and take the very first exit (Exit
22 South) onto Front Street South. Front Street South,
which becomes a one-way street, will take you directly
into Downtown Harrisburg.
From Route 283 (West from Lancaster)
Coming from Lancaster and points east on Route 283,
follow 283 North. Once past Route 441 watch for signs
to Harrisburg. You will exit to the right off Route
283, onto Route 283 North just before the entrance to
the PA Turnpike. Once on 283 North stay in the left
lane, to I-83 South. Once on I-83 South, pass Harrisburg
East Mall; stay in the right lane to Exit 43, which
flows down onto Second Street and into Downtown Harrisburg.
From the PA Turnpike - Route I-76 (West from Philadelphia)
Coming from Philadelphia and points east on the PA Turnpike
(I-76), follow I-76 West to Exit 19 (283 North). Follow
283 North, staying in the left lane to I-83 South. Once
on I-83 South, pass Harrisburg East Mall; stay in the
right lane to Exit 43, which flows down onto Second
Street and into Downtown Harrisburg.
From the PA Turnpike - Route I-76 (East from Pittsburgh)
Coming from Pittsburgh and points west on the PA Turnpike
(I-76), follow I-76 East to Exit 247 (I-83 North). Follow
I-83 North to the 581/I-83 split. Stay to the right
and follow I-83 North over the South Bridge across the
Susquehanna River. Take the first exit (Exit 43) onto
Second Street and into Downtown Harrisburg.
Parking:
Continue into Downtown to the Market Street garage,
which is one block before the Hilton, or park at the
Walnut Street garage attached to the Hilton.
