Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh Names Goes To Advisory Board; Will Provide Insight on Housing, Economic and Community Development
PITTSBURGH, PA, July 2, 2007 – The Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank Pittsburgh) has named West Virginia Secretary of Commerce Kelley Goes to its Affordable Housing Advisory Council.
FHLBank Pittsburgh, a wholesale bank using private capital, not taxpayer funds, is a government sponsored enterprise chartered by Congress to provide a steady stream of low-cost housing finance to community financial institutions. More recently, the Bank’s mission has grown to include financing for small business startup and expansion as well as a variety of community and economic development needs. The Bank is the primary sponsor of West Virginia’s new Blueprint Communities initiative, announced in March by Gov. Joe Manchin.
As a member of the Affordable Housing Advisory Council, Goes will help FHLBank’s Board of Directors identify the housing needs of lower-income families across the Bank’s district of Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The council also advises the Board on the appropriate use of resources to support affordable housing and community development and helps build strategic partnerships to further the Bank’s public mission.
Goes succeeds Patrick A. Bond, a founding general partner of Mountaineer Capital, LP, of Charleston, WV, who recently was named to FHLBank’s Board of Directors.
“We’re delighted that Kelley Goes has agreed to join our advisory council,” said Bond. “Kelley will bring some valuable insights to our deliberations regarding both the affordable housing and community and economic development needs of West Virginia in particular and our district in general.”
As Secretary of Commerce, Goes oversees nine key agencies dedicated to improving the lives of West Virginians: The West Virginia Development Office, West Virginia Division of Energy, West Virginia Division of Forestry, West Virginia Division of Labor, West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, West Virginia Division of Tourism, West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey, West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training and WORKFORCE West Virginia.
Prior to being named Secretary of Commerce by Gov. Manchin, Goes served as Department of Commerce Deputy Secretary and General Counsel and as Assistant Attorney General. Goes is a graduate of Braxton County High School, Vanderbilt University and the University of Kentucky’s College of Law.
