Leon Weiner’s Brooks Elected to Third Term as Affordable Housing Chair
WILMINGTON, DE, March 2, 2010 – Glenn Brooks, Senior Vice President of Wilmington-based builder and developer Leon N. Weiner & Associates, Inc., was elected to his third term as Chair of the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLBank) of Pittsburgh’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council. Brooks was elected by the 15-member group comprised of nonprofit and for-profit representatives from Delaware, Pennsylvania and West Virginia at their meeting in Pittsburgh.
The twelve congressionally chartered Federal Home Loan Banks are privately funded cooperatives of local lenders. FHLBank Pittsburgh provides low-cost liquidity and other financial services to 316 lenders across the three states in pursuit of its mission of housing finance and community and economic development.
The Council chaired by Brooks provides direction and recommendations related to the Bank’s affordable housing and community development programs. The Council works closely with the Bank's Community Investment Department to help shape policy and provide recommendations on program creation, changes and enhancements.
The cornerstone of FHLBank’s community outreach is the Affordable Housing Program (AHP). Over the past 20 years, FHLBank Pittsburgh has committed more than $164 million in AHP dollars, helping to build more than 26,000 units of affordable housing and supporting more than $2.9 billion in total development. These efforts have contributed significant resources to creating strong, healthy communities. The FHLBank system now represents the largest private sector source of grants supporting low-income housing in the U.S.
Since AHP began, more than $10 million has helped create 1,355 units of affordable housing in the First State, while another $5.14 million in first-time homeowner grants has helped lower-income families in the state close on 1,205 homes.
