FHLBank Pittsburgh Celebrates Three New Homeowners in Erie, Pennsylvania, with Erie Federal Credit Union and Marquette Savings Bank

“My mom said, look at my daughter in her new house,” stated Jasmine, one of the three new homeowners celebrated at Sisters of Saint Joseph Neighborhood Network’s (SSJNN) Genesis Celebration in Erie, Pennsylvania.

SSJNN’s Genesis program provides affordable housing to families while also helping to build financial and practical skills. The program involves 12 to 36 months of mentoring in budgeting, credit-building education, and financial literacy. Families are then connected with realtors and mortgage loan officers as they work towards financing and bank approvals.

The three homeowners who were celebrated at this event received down payment and closing cost assistance from first-time homebuyer products provided by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) through FHLBank members Erie Federal Credit Union (Erie FCU) and Marquette Savings Bank (Marquette).

“At Erie FCU, we know that buying your first home is one of the most stressful, yet exciting milestones in life,” said Tom Brennan, chief marketing officer of Erie FCU. “Fortunately, down payment and closing cost assistance programs like those provided by FHLBank can put the American dream of homeownership within reach.”

"Helping first-time home buyers get the keys to their very first home is one of the most rewarding parts of my job,” said Angela Potter, assistant branch manager at Marquette. “I was familiar with the SSJNN’s Genesis program and knew that with Marquette working to secure funding from FHLBank’s First Front Door program, we were doing everything we could to help clients reach the dreams of homeownership.”

“A lot of people don’t think it’s achievable until they see it happen,” said Jasmine. “Genesis gave me the education to be self-sufficient and secure the FHLBank grant to cover my closing costs. Housing is the most important step to independence.”
