Employee Volunteers Build On Affordable Housing Work By Refreshing Habitat Pittsburgh "ReStore"

Volunteers of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank), including friends and family, worked at the Habitat Pittsburgh ReStore during the spring season to benefit home-construction shoppers and lower-income residents. The Habitat Pittsburgh ReStore is a shopping facility of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh (Habitat Pittsburgh), that includes discounted items that new or existing homeowners might need, from cabinetry, to tables, to windows.

FHLBank and Habitat Pittsburgh share in the important regional work of affordable housing. This year, Jonathan Bentrim, Pritha Madhavan and Karen Weiss have been leading FHLBank’s collaboration and partnership.

Our 30 volunteers, who represented many departments across FHLBank, invested nearly 200 hours total over a five-day span to organize and clean the store including:

  • Moving furniture, including beds, cabinets and tables
  • Sorting books, carpets and sundry items
  • Sweeping, mopping and operating a heavy-duty floor buffing machine
  • Washing windows

“The five-day continuous work of the FHLBank volunteers, as well as the weekend work, was extraordinarily beneficial for Habitat Pittsburgh, a first for a Corporate Partner,” said Dr. Slaughter. “FHLBank has been a long-time supporter of the work of Habitat Pittsburgh, and our work to provide homeownership and home repairs to local, low-income families.”

Photos from the event can be viewed on FHLBank’s LinkedIn page. This year, FHLBank will also participate in the summer Youth Triathlon and Team Build Day. More information about Habitat Pittsburgh can be found on their website at habitatpittsburgh.org.
